Mumbai: Independent MLC Satyajeet Tambe, while reacting on the state budget in the Legislative Council, said the government should align the budget allocation as it increased the police department budget by 26%.
“Budget allocation for agriculture department was reduced by 17%, so was the case of roads department. Moreover, even the health department allocation was reduced considerably. The government should have thought about increasing the police budget allocation number to this extent,” Tambe said.
Tambe cited Israel as a prime example to replicate with respect to coming to terms with blending technology and workforce. “Proper use of technology at relevant places would reduce the budget considerably,” he added.
Tambe also said the budget is not just a play of funds but a mindset to take the state ahead. “If we are to become a one trillion dollar economy, the growth should be pegged at 11-12%. But it stands at 5.3%, much less than Gujarat at 8.3%, Karnataka at 7.8%, and Andhra Pradesh at 7.4%. When will Maharashtra reach the required number and what measures are taken to take the state there is the main challenge in front of the government.”
