Remembering Subrata Roy: A Visionary Leader and Business Icon

Subrata Roy, the founder of Sahara India Pariwar, passed away on Wednesday, November 14. He was 75. His demise marks the end of an era for one of India’s largest conglomerates, spanning finance, real estate, media, and hospitality.

In a statement, the Sahara group said, “Saharasri ji an inspirational leader and visionary, passed away on 14th November 2023 at 10.30 pm due to cardiorespiratory arrest following an extended battle with complications arising from metastatic malignancy, hypertension, and diabetes. He was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute (KDAH) on 12th November 2023, following a decline in health.”

His body is still remains within Kokilaben Hospital. After due process it will be handed to the family. The media and reporters are waiting outside.

Producer Anand Pandit took to his X (twitter) profile and expressed his condolence, he wrote, “A successful businessman who inspired many including myself, a great visionary, great sports enthusiast, a motivational speaker and most importantly a gem of a person…I have had a chance to meet him a few times but those few meetings shall forever remain etched in my heart. Subrata ji, you shall be missed. Rest in Peace Om Shanti #SubrataRoySahara”

Born on June 10, 1948, in Araria, Bihar, Subrata Roy’s journey into the business world began with an education in mechanical engineering. In 1976, he took the reins of a struggling chit fund company, Sahara Finance, transforming it into Sahara India Pariwar by 1978. This marked the beginning of a remarkable legacy in the Indian business landscape.

Subrata Roy’s legacy is one of entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on India’s business landscape. His passing is mourned not only by the Sahara family but by the business community at large.
