In a significant development, the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan held a telephonic conversation today at 15:35 IST. Both sides mutually agreed to halt all forms of military actions — on land, air, and sea — starting from 17:00 IST today.
Sources confirmed that the call was initiated by Pakistan’s DGMO, who proposed a ceasefire to which the Indian DGMO responded positively. Immediate instructions have been issued to ground forces on both sides to comply with the agreement.
This comes amid heightened tensions along the borders, especially after recent drone attacks and artillery exchanges. The two countries have been locked in a tense military standoff over the past few days, prompting diplomatic and military circles to seek de-escalation.
A follow-up call between the two DGMOs is scheduled for May 12 at 12:00 noon IST to review the status of the ceasefire and address any developments or concerns.
Experts are calling this a welcome move that may pave the way for further confidence-building measures, provided both nations stick to the agreed terms. While India remains committed to peace, it has also reiterated that national security will never be compromised.
This agreement is seen as a critical first step in easing tensions in the region and offering a brief window of calm in a volatile geopolitical atmosphere.
