Bitpanda’s MiCA Milestone: Unlocking Access to 450M Customers in Europe
Crypto exchange Bitpanda has received a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), allowing it to expand operations across the 30 nations of the European Economic Area (EEA). Meanwhile, competing exchanges OKX and Crypto.com also secured accreditation under MiCA from Malta, further signaling the rapid adoption of the EU’s unified crypto licensing framework.
The MiCA regulations, which came into effect at the end of last year, enable licensed companies to operate across the EEA without obtaining individual country approvals. This includes all 27 EU member states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
Austria-based Bitpanda, which boasted 6 million users in December, plans to leverage its license to accelerate growth. “This milestone enables us to bring easy and safe investing to over 450 million people, unlocking unparalleled growth potential in a market we’re ready to fully conquer,” said Eric Demuth, Bitpanda’s CEO and co-founder.
OKX and Crypto.com join other companies like Boerse Stuttgart Digital, the first recipient of a MiCA license from BaFin, alongside firms such as MoonPay, BitStaete, ZBD, and prime brokerage and clearing company Hidden Road.
For Crypto.com, the approval simplifies operations across borders. “We can streamline operations to ensure both compliance and seamless cross-border activity,” said Eric Anziani, Crypto.com’s COO.
With MiCA now in place, Europe’s crypto market is poised for significant growth, enabling licensed platforms to serve millions of customers across the region efficiently and securely.
