Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Bima Sakhi Yojana in Panipat, Haryana, aimed at empowering women by creating job opportunities and enhancing financial independence. The scheme is designed to provide financial assistance of up to Rs 7,000 per month to rural women by training them to become LIC insurance agents (Bima Sakhis).

Addressing the launch, PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering women across the country. “This scheme is another step towards ensuring our mothers, sisters, and daughters have the tools to become financially independent,” he stated on X (formerly Twitter).

What is Bima Sakhi Yojana?

The Bima Sakhi Yojana, initiated by the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), targets women aged 18 to 70 who have completed at least Class 10 education. Participants will undergo three years of comprehensive training to develop financial literacy and insurance-related skills, equipping them to work as LIC agents.

Eligibility Criteria for LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana

To qualify for the Bima Sakhi Yojana, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Gender: Only women can apply.
Education: Minimum qualification of Class 10 pass.
Age: Applicants must be aged 18 to 70 years.
Employment Terms: Participants will work as LIC agents, not regular employees, and will not be eligible for standard employee benefits.
Performance Targets: Selected candidates must meet annual targets to continue in the scheme.
Stipend Structure
Participants in the Bima Sakhi Yojana will receive a stipend during the three-year training period:

First Year: Rs 7,000 per month
Second Year: Rs 6,000 per month
